Changes.

One of my happy places...California wine country.
Happy Saturday to everyone. The week has gone by so fast.. And then again I thought the weekend would never get here.  How can it feel both fast and slow? How can you be laughing one second and crying the next?  How can the sun suddenly disappear and a storm cloud move in?  How can someone be here one day and gone the next? Because this is life. And it's not always pretty, or perfect, or fair. Emotions can change in an instant, as can weather, time and life.

In looking for positive things in my world right now. I have come to discover that everything can change and will change at some point. Nothing really stays the same. People, when asked how things are going, often reply, "same old, same old." Nothing new to report, no changes going on. Yet there really are. Every second something is changing. We are changing our bodies as we age, changing our opinions as we learn and listen, and changing each other as we interact on a daily basis. Such subtle little things going on constantly. Changes happening and we barely notice.

But then there are the big changes. The ones that cause us stress, emotional suffering, and sometimes physical and emotional harm. These are the big ones, the life and death ones, the changing of our world ones. These are the nothing will ever be the same changes. They rock our world and the very core of our being. Adapting to change is the problem we all face. Riding the wave, so to speak, is better than trying to stand tall against it, and being knocked over. Go with the flow. Let yourself be gently led through this change because you can't fight it, or make it go away, or change it back. You can only continue on.  One day at a time.

Thought for the day: Remember, no human condition is ever permanent. Then you will not be overjoyed in good fortune nor too scornful in misfortune. -Socrates (BC469-399)

  1. So true Pattie and a very well written and insightful post. I think that every day, we do tend to take the little things for granted and sometimes are oblivious to the changes that are hapening right under our noses.
I hope that today you will find peace & happiness and that this message finds you well.
Much love to you my friend!

  3. Hugs to you! California is one of my happy places as well. My husband and I went there for our anniversary and went wine tasting...so much fun! Have you ever been to the Tablas Creek Vineyard in Paso Robles? OMG! So good, and their wine tour was sooooo fasinating. If you ever get the chance to go there, please do, and when you're there, know that you're walking where I have once been...kind of a cool thought. http://www.tablascreek.com/

  4. Pattie, you are such an amazing writer! I"m lucky if my sentences make sense! Your wine country picture just reminded me that my husband is going to take me up there for a late Valentine's Day treat. I'm so excited!!!!! He has some airline tickets that are about to expire and asked if I wanted to go to Northern Cal or Chicago. He adores Chicago and thinks I'd like it, but Im a bit of a wuss (sp?) when it comes to the cold. I'd like to do Chicago in the fall! Anyhow, I hope things are returning to normal for your family.

  8. I remember when a friend lost her Dad and we were in our 20s, she said "everyone goes on, as if everything is still the same. But it's not the same. I want scream 'don't you know my dad is dead?' and nothing will ever be the same". I always thing of that now when a friend has lost someone. How we all just keeping trotting along, but their world is inside out, whether or not it is showing.

  9. I sometimes think the changes come a little too fast to keep up with. Maybe that's why we all like traditions so much - for the sameness.
