Stay the same or mix it up?

I read somewhere that when establishing new eating habits, it's good to automate your meals. This means to eat the same thing, with maybe a few slight variations, every breakfast, lunch and dinner.

I like food variety and sometimes I think the more variety I give myself, the more chance there is to overeat. Do you find that works for you?

On the belly fat cure, eggs are a given for breakfast. That's usually what I have every morning in some form. Now there are lots of ways to make eggs so you don't get bored.  My favorite is poaching them. I bought a microwave poacher, but still like the old fashioned way on the stove better.

Today I had oatmeal with unsweetened peanut butter mixed in. It was very good. I hadn't made that in a long time, but I was getting tired of eggs.

What's your favorite breakfast? Mine is poached eggs with spinach, cheese and chia seeds on ezekial bread.  I'll post your responses it so we can all have some new ideas!

My favorite poached egg breakfast.

Square meals, not adventurous ones, are what you should seek.

  1. I love that last quote..good way to think about our meals.

I am a huge sweet tooth person so I love anything sweet for breakfast. My favorites are: homeade breads and muffins with jam and peanut butter, pancakes, oatmeal with peanut nut butters an chocolate sauce, and french toast!

  2. Good post Pattie! I think it is true about eating the same things over and over. I am a weird eater anyway, but when I find something that I like, I can eat it for breakfast, lunch and dinner. My go to breakfast is still a potatoe, 2 jimmy dean sausage patties, and at the end adding an egg and letting it cook up a little so the yoke breaks out over the potatoes. I know some people are anti potatoes, but I have found them to keep me in check. I am up about 5 lbs over my low and it certainly isn't from eating my normal things, it's from eating too many new and high carb things. I have eaten a lot of eggs when I am trying to cut the carbs back. I like to slice up a johnsonville brat and fry it up and then add scrambled eggs, I add spinach almost every time I scramble eggs because I can't taste it really and it gives me a little green. I'm even getting good at omelette making:) I do have my English muffin with butter and natures hollow on one side and PB and natures hollow on the other. I'm just simple folk!
We are still thinking, still doing, and still trying to eat healthy so we are way ahead of the game!

  3. Well, I'm making the smoothie breakfast right now, but that just started. Before that my favorite breakfasts were either eggs over easy with bacon, scrambled eggs with cheese and spinach, or Jay Robb pancakes with Joseph's sugar free syrup. Once in awhile I'd have steel cut oatmeal with walnuts, blueberries and a few sugarfree chocolate chips.

  4. I like eggs - done so many ways - but I really love them with cheddar and sour cream. My family loves the almond flour yogurt waffles I make - they are the bomb with whipped cream and a sprinkle of wild blueberries. I used to love oatmeal but now I know what it does to my blood sugar (and therefore my insulin) and won't ever eat it again – not worth it in my book :)

  5. I'm with you on that. After doing this for almost 3 years - it does get a bit tedious eating the same thing. I try real hard to switch it up. I think my favorite would be having 2 cheesecake muffins with natures hollow and some turkey bacon and berries for breakfast. I love those... OK now look what you did - I gotta go and make some...Craving attack!! LOL

  6. I find that staying the same makes it a lot easier. My favorite breakfast these days has been a minute muffin (with both coconut and flax) but today I had an egg over easy with my new found bread. Those are my usual go to breakfast meals.

  7. I mostly eat the microwave scrambled egg in a mug deal. Sometimes I add cheddar and diced chili's to the eggs, or smoked gouda and artichokes/ Lately I've just been doing the eggs, w/ a little cream and smoked gouda. I'm finding that the Jay Robb protein shake doesn't keep me full long enough. If I'm super sick of eggs, I'll have Rosie's minute muffin (coconut flour, flax and almond flour mix) with a bit of natural peanut butter and some nature's hollow jam. I'm always in a hurry to get kids out of the house and to get into my territory for work, so the microwave eggs (whether I want them or not) keep me full and are fast :)

  8. I often will eat what I had for dinner the night before if I really enjoyed it. Last week I made spaghetti squash with a tomato/meat spaghetti sauce that I loved so I had it for breakfast..mmm good! My go to is scrabbled eggs w/cheese and spinach plus 2 strips of bacon...throw it in a low carb wrap if I am heading out the door; but mostly I make time to eat it at home. I get tired of showing to work with food down my front :-) lol

    2 T. almond milk
    2 T. Flax meal
    1 t. vanilla
2 t. aluminum free baking powder
Combine all ingredients in your blender. Use approx 1/3 cup of pancake mix on griddle sprayed with Pam or oil. Makes 6 pancakes. I top mine with 1 T natures hollow jam, 1 T sugar free syrup & fresh berries. YUMMY!!!

  10. Hello, just found your blog, glad to be following! I like variety but keeping to the same foods works best for me, HOWEVER...I get bored with the same food - my husband is the opposite lol!
