You are cordially invited
to a pity party
in honor of
Pattie
on the occasion of her
knee arthroscopy
for a torn meniscus
Yes, I'm having a pity party for myself. I tore my meniscus some time ago, probably in December. Some say it was because of the boot camp classes I started, but I say it was not one incident, but a slow progression of my meniscus wearing away and one day it tore. Be that as it may, I have been hobbling around for three and a half months. I have had some times where it didn't hurt too bad. I was even able to have fun dancing at a wedding in December, but the next day it was swollen and sore and just sort of kept going downhill little by little since then.
So Monday I had an arthroscopy. The Dr. told me several times, even as they were wheeling me into the operating room, that I might not notice any big difference. There was nothing they could do for the severe arthritis the MRI showed, and the inside of my knee was "bone on bone" where the cartilage had worn away. He couldn't do anything about that. They would clean up the torn edges of the meniscus, clean out any debris and hopefully I would feel and walk better.
So home I went after the procedure and was supposed to limit activity for two days. Do you know how many times I have dreamed of having the time to sit on the sofa with my books and magazines, catching up on TV shows and movies? Well I've had a little too much of that over the past few months and it's not as exciting as I thought it would be. I am not the couch potato type. In fact I'm more like the energizer bunny, in that I keep going and going and sometimes need to know when to slow down.
Anyway, it's been 48 hours and I am still not walking very well yet, and I'm a little down in the dumps. I just want to walk without the limp and I thought that would happen right away. I know it's only 48 hours since I had the scope, but I guess I was expecting immediate results. So that's why I'm having my pity party. Please indulge me, and sorry for being a Debbie Downer!!
Beautiful flowers from my friend Nancy. |
Thought for the day: If you have to be laid up on the sofa for awhile, I highly recommend the Downton Abbey series to pass the time. I'm all caught up and all I can say is I'm hooked!
I'm still not caught up with 3 yet on dowton, but I guess I will have time when I get my foot done. LOL
ReplyDeleteThen we can pity together. I really hope you are feeling better real soon. Big hugs from this awesome weather. :-)
Catch up as soon as you can. You won't believe the ending!!
DeleteI sure hope your knee feels better soon. I'm sure it just needs more time to recuperate. Is it painful now?
ReplyDeleteI know what you mean about sitting around. It gets boring fast! I LOVED Downton Abbey and then needed a new fix. I discovered Mad Men. Have you ever seen that series? I watched the first episode on Netflix and was hooked. I have spent most evenings over the last couple months watching seasons 1-5. I thought five seasons would last me a long time, but they were so good I couldn't stop myself from watching them! Season six starts for real sometime in April.
Beth, I may have to start watching that. I need something new to look forward to and I have never watched Mad Men before. Thanks for the tip!
DeleteI'm here for Pattie's party! I think it's one thing to be a couch potato because you want to and not because you have to. Wishing you a speedy recovery. I'm sure nice weather would help the mood.
ReplyDeleteThank you Dana. I hope you have an enjoyable time at the pity party!! Thanks for coming!!
DeleteI'm here too! My boys are outside playing football catch, having fun. You don't want to hear it. LOL! I hope you feel better soon- it's no fun when you HAVE to stay down, even when you think it's going to be fun. I loved Downton Abbey, right up until that last scene in season three. Now I don't know if I want to watch it anymore. I'm so sad. Anyhow, that's all I have to say about that. :)
ReplyDeleteI know what you mean. I was shocked at the ending of Downton. It won't be the same without you know who. I can't believe it, but I heard that actor did not want to renew their contract. Thanks for coming to the pity party!! At least I can still laugh at myself!!
DeleteRSVPing to Patties Pity Party....LOL! Shall I bring the wine? :) I hope your knee heals fast! It's no fun to be down unless you want to be, especially when you are in pain. Hopefully you got some good pain meds. I havent watched Downtown Abbey, or much of any cable channel because my hubby took all the drywall out of the livng room to rewire behind the walls and he must've knocked the Dish Network cable or something....my kids aren't happy that the DVR isn't working and we can't get any of our old DVR'd shows. (sucks for my 15 yr old because she was grounded from tv for 2 weeks and can't catch up on her shows now that she's not grounded). I do recommend HGTV's Property Brothers and Love it or List it....hehehe! I don't know what it is about renovations to houses that has me hooked....probably wishful thinking! Feel better!
ReplyDeleteCarey
Carey - I love those two shows and about any other reno/sell it show that is on HGTV!
DeleteWell I will be happy to join you at your pity party! I just watched the first episode of season 1 of Downton and it was good. My daughter is letting me borrow her DVD. I may skip to season 3 after I am done since I have it DVR'd. She told me what is going to happen, so I won't be shocked, but she was MAD!!!
ReplyDeleteI really do hope and pray that your knee is better soon and you will be dancing on tables! I think there is a huge difference when you "can" sit around and when you "have" to sit around. It is another one of those "be careful what you wish for" moments!
To Carey and Pattie, I watch all of those HGTV shows too. I love thinking of someone doing that for me some day. I love the House Hunters International too, they are usually moving to a beach somewhere and that looks awesome to me!
Blessings and hugs my friend!
So sorry for your knee. It's sort of like when you are sick, when you are better you appreciate your health even more than you did before you were sick. I also love Upstairs, Downstairs the new series. It's similar to Downton Abbey.
ReplyDeleteI can feel your pain and, yes, I'm RSVP'ing to your party! :)
ReplyDeleteI remember when I found out I had to be on bed rest for 2 weeks with our first baby. I thought, "Yippee... I can relax, read books, watch TV - all with a legitimate excuse". Well you know how it is --- it got old FAST! Two or three days in I was calling people to come over and talk with me because I was soooo bored and I was sore from being immobile.
Hang in there and try to take it easy so your body can heal properly. You'll be up and about soon enough! Praying for a smooth and full recovery Pattie!
Count me in, too!
ReplyDeleteDo you have Netflix then? I had looked at PBS to see if they were offering episodes of DA and didn't find it. We don't have Netflix... our internet provider stinks too much to enjoy streaming programs and we're in a rural area without any choice of providers. Blech. Never have seen it and would like to find it online from the beginning. Maybe Hulu?
Hope you're up and about soon without much discomfort.
