Life in a fishbowl!

I have to admit I love to blog. I discovered when I started this blog, that I really enjoy writing. This blog started out as a way to journal and connect to others following a low sugar, low carb eating plan and trying to lose weight. But besides that, I'm finding that I want to talk about other things going on in my life. I hope you will indulge me when I do because I that's part of who I am too. I love reading all the blogs I follow, and besides the great tips and motivation I get, I really like feeling connected to what others are doing in their lives.

This was weigh in week and I am up a pound. I realized when you are trying something different, people look to you to see if what you are doing is working. Many of you can claim to have not just talked the talk, but walked the walk as well. You've lost weight and succeeded. I struggle and sometimes I feel my credibility isn't so good because I'm not showing how well this program can really work. I struggle, fall off the wagon, get back on, fall again. All the while I am still heading towards a goal, but my, it's a long journey! People are watching what I eat, what I don't eat and looking to see if this time I can really do it. Can I really follow this type of eating plan and make it work?

So I'm thinking that must be how Admiral Bubbles feels most days...like he's being watched. Admiral Bubbles is my fifth pet. He's a fish. I didn't really think of a fish as a pet before. Not a real pet anyway.  But he needs me to feed him, clean his water, and keep him alive. He's dependent on me....so he's a pet.

He didn't start out being mine. He belonged to my son. But then he came home from college break. The trip in the car from Connecticut to Pennsylvania was hard on him. He lost his color for a long while. And that's how he ended up with me. He just couldn't make the trip back. He was stuck in PA, stuck in a fishbowl on a kitchen counter, and stuck with me!

I tried to spruce up his domain. I added some rocks,  and a little plastic plant I found at Wal Mart. I tried to make his new home comfortable. I figured maybe I would include him in a clever arrangement so he would fit in with my kitchen decor better. I took a tray and put it on the counter. Put some flowers near him, and  a candle. He was now part of a centerpiece!

So two years later, he is not only still alive, he's thriving. He just got upgraded to a bigger bowl. For him that was like moving from an efficiency apartment to a one bedroom condo.  He watches me and I watch him. He could probably tell me all the things I'm doing wrong. He sees when I sneak alittle extra something here and there. He knows when I overdo the bad stuff.  I wonder if I can teach him how to keep a food journal?

  1. OMG...I LOVE THIS POST Pattie!! Admiral Bubbles (LOVE the name!!) is adorable and is lucky to have you to take care of him. I thought it was sweet that you upgraded his living quarters too. I only have a dog but I often wonder what he would say if he could talk...probably "lets eat" or "feed me mom" or "is it cookie time yet"? hee hee! Hes a BIG GOlden Retriever (122#) who loves to eat! He is VERY handsome though & I tell my friend hes the son I never gave birth to. He doesnt give me attitude & is always pleasant & gives kisses on demand without question. I will hate it when its his time, he IS part of our family for sure, and to think that I wanted to return him after we got him. He was really bad the first year & he ate the drywall in my kitchen daily! Im surprised my walls still are standing! lol. anyways, sorry to ramble about my boy.
I think that BFC is a great plan but it is challenging to those of us who adore carbs, myself included. I think you are doing great! Just keep on keepin on & know that we arent perfect & that its ok that we flub up sometimes. Just cant make it a daily thing or else we will never see any weight loss.
    Havea wonderful day my friend!!

  2. Pattie, I think the Admiral is very luck to have you.
I do love blogging also. It is such a great way to meet others with the same goals. It is also a great way to vent.
    Have a great day :-)

  3. I like to blog too, and I think whatever you want to blog about is fine. We all support each other in our weight loss/diet goals, but we also support each other with the life stuff too. And if the fishy keeps you honest, let him! :) We all need extra help sometimes. LOL!

  4. I'm liking the blogging more and more also! This is a nice community too. I have to give you credit for getting a fish to live that long. I'm sad to say our carnival goldfish only made it a night or two around here. Besides our two dogs we did adopt a stray cat that lives outside, and at times we've had a turtle or two.

  5. Our Kitty is inherited from my daughter too. Now I don't know what I would do without her!
I am so glad that you blog. You are insightful and you write beautifully!
People are going to watch, some will hope you succeed, some will hope that you don't. We can only do what we know is working for us. I honestly feel with all of me, that this program works. I eat a lot of food. I just eat a lot less food than I used to, and I don't eat sugar. I'm not even tempted to, it is so weird to me.
I will now allow myself to have something if I want it.
It is a slow steady process gaining weight, it happens sometimes over years! Losing weight we want instant success, instant results! It simply doesn't work that way. I used to say if there was an easy way or a pill to take to lose weight, Oprah would not be heavy. She has everything at her disposal and still struggles. Her quick fix with the liquid protein lasted such a short amount of time:(
Just keep blogging, keep holding yourself accountable, keep eating a little less and making better choices, enjoy life in the fish bowl. I do know that people are suddenly more interested in what I have been doing since I have shown results. That's why we all need Rosie, she is a reminder it really can work, and does, if we do it!
    Blessings Pattie!
And the "girls" are looking like that because I wear underwire everything! Bathing suits, cami's, sport bras. I would have to roll them and fold them up without the blessings of underwire!
